Twitter follower, I’m breaking up with you • Jonathan Eggers

Previously I've written about why I Twitter, and how I get the most out of Twitter. I mentioned that Twitter is all about the wealth of information immediately available to me. But finding that information has become increasingly difficult as my follower list has grown. More important than the wealth of information is the conversation that accompanies it. Keeping track of a conversation stream within a lake of tweets has gotten difficult. I've maintained a private list of people who are my favorites - people that I find very helpful and interesting and interact with. So, why am I following others that I'm not interacting with? So, here it goes: Dear Twitter Follower, I hate to do this via blog post, but it seems to be the only way to reach you. I'm sorry to say this, but it's time for us to go our separate ways. I know, we've had many good times ignoring each others' tweets, and I've grown accustom to seeing you in my following list. But, recently, I've asked myself some tough Twitter questions. I keep getting stuck on one in particular. Why am I following you. Honestly, there's no good reason why. Maybe I followed you because I thought we'd interact; hoped we'd be Twitter friends. Maybe there's no relationship there because of something I did... or didn't do. But, it's obvious that there is no relationship now, and there isn't going to be one just because I'm following you. So, I guess what I'm saying is, it's not you, it's me. I'm unfollowing you. Don't worry. You'll get over me.
