The HTC Rezound Root Guide
This HTC Rezound root guide is out of date and will not be updated.
Rooting the HTC Rezound is very easy; however, at this time it is only possible to gain temporary root. As of yet, there is no way to set the phone to S-Off. This means that you can still root the HTC Rezound and run applications like AdBlock and Titanium Backup. [Edit: It is my understanding that Titanium Backup will run with this temporary root. Functionality may be limited.] You can also remove bloatware, although if you reboot the phone the bloatware is downloaded and re-installed.
Is it worth it? Sure! At the very least, having a Titanium Backup of your phone and freezing bloat make rooting the Rezound worth it. It’s your phone after all, exercise your freedom to do with it what you want!
The Standard Disclaimer!
If you decide to root your Rezound phone I take no responsibility for anything going wrong. By “rooting” your android phone you are voiding your warranty.
Rooting
Download the following:
- The modified ZergRush from NilsP
- HTC Drivers
- Wireless Tether for Rezound
- Extract ZergRush and the HTC driver files.
- Hard restart the phone (battery pull will do the trick)
- After the reboot, put the phone into debug mode
- Install Titanium Backup from the market.
- Connect the phone to the computer via USB.
- Select HTC Sync on the phone for connection type
- The computer will detect the phone and install a new device. Use the HTC drivers if prompted.
- Navigate to the ZergRush folder and run DoomLords-RunMe.bat. If you are running Windows 7 you may need to run this as Administrator.
- Your phone is rooted!
At this point Superuser should be able to install. If you try to run Superuser directly you will get a force close, but it will work with apps like Titanium Backup and AdBlock.
Getting Rid of Bloat
Bloat that is removed will be downloaded and reinstalled after a reboot. Plus, a reboot removed root. However, you can use Titanium Backup to freeze apps. I’m still unsure whether apps remain frozen after a reboot, but it’s likely not – so don’t reboot your phone. 😉
Here’s a list of apps, via bast525 that can be safely frozen without causing instability issues.
